Hey guys! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer ’17. If you haven’t caught my latest blog, I talked about how I’ve come to a new beginning in my life – I’ve stepped away from the corporate world, so that I can fully pursue my passion of writing. And what do girls do when they start a new chapter? Change their hair!
Now my decision wasn’t the typical hasty, possibly hormonal-induced, decision that often comes with new changes and beginnings. My decision was premeditated, but the timing of its execution could not have come at a better time. With this new chapter starting, I was ready for a change; plus, my hair had been the same color for the last 2 years! This was due to the fact that I was solely focused on growing my hair out to a long length and healthy state. But with no further ado, I said “balayage me, baby”. No I didn’t. But, let’s just pretend I did. 🙂
I was a little nervous to do highlights, but I trust my hair stylist Brittany Helberg Caldwell so much that I knew it would turn out fabulous. The balayage technique is much softer and more natural-looking than the traditional foil technique used for highlights. Brittany explained to me that balayage is when the stylist literally free-hand paints the highlights into the hair. I had a heck of a time finding a picture to show her what I was envisioning, just because there are more pictures of blondes with balayage highlights out there and even the brunette pictures often had blonde or caramel highlights within the brown base. So, I hope that my pictures can help out a fellow dark-haired brunette wishing to go the balayage route, but isn’t wanting such a light tone for their highlights!
Here are before pictures.
And the after pictures!

And here’s a selfie, with better lighting 🙂
Brittany did a fantastic job and I absolutely love my new hair. Brittany works at Salon 5014 in the Knox Henderson area in Dallas. Go check out her talent at hairxbrittany.com or on Instagram @hairxbrittany!
I’ll be posting another picture update on my Instagram once the toner has washed out some, as it will brighten up a bit more! Stay tuned on my IG: @dallasmoderndayhippie.
I went back to Brittany for some more highlights a couple weeks later and am in LOVE with how it turned out. You can see the balayage much better now!
I am loving the lighter hair, maybe I’ll get even more in a couple of months! Make sure you check out Brittany’s work: hairxbrittany.com or on Instagram @hairxbrittany!
